The single for “Tougher Than The Rest” was pressed as a 7″ and 12″, with multiple different pressings between both formats. For the 12″, there are five separate pressings, two are of Dutch origin, two from the UK and one from Spain. There are two differences between them, catalog number and track listing. Te 12″ pressing featured here has catalog number 651641 6. The catalog number for the other 12″ pressing is 653192 6.

The cover art for each 12″ pressing is the same and the track listing is almost identical, save for a few songs. Here is the track listing for the pressing featured here (catalog number 651641 6):

A1. Tougher Than The Rest

A2. Tougher Than The Rest (live)

B1. Be True (live)

B2.  Born To Run (live)

Tracks A2 and B2 were recorded April 27, 1988 at L.A. Sports Arena, Los Angeles, Ca. Track B1 was recorded March 28, 1988 at Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI. The Spanish 12″ pressing (catalog # CBS 651641 6) has this track listing as well, and has the same cover art too.

Here is the track listing for the other12″ pressing (catalog # 653192 6):

A1. Tougher Than The Rest (live)

A2. Be True (live)

B1. Chimes Of Freedom (live)

B2. Born To Run (live acoustic)

Tracks A1 and B2 were recorded April 27, 1988 at L.A. Sports Arena, Los Angeles, Ca. Track A2 was recorded March 28, 1988 at Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, MI and track B1was recorded July 3, 1988 in Stockholm, Sweden.

One of the two UK 12″ pressings has the same cover art as the rest of the 12″ pressings. One (catalog number – BRUCE T3) has this track listing:

A1. Tougher Than The Rest
A2. Roulette
B1. Tougher Than The Rest (Live)
B2. Be True (Live)

The other UK 12″ pressing, catalog number – BRUCE Q3, is the only one that has different cover than the rest of them. However, the track listing is the same as the other UK pressing. The cover art has blue writing instead of pink, and has a different picture of Springsteen.

Along with the 12″ pressings there are also six separate 7″ pressing; a, Dutch, French, Spanish, Australian and ; two from the UK. The French pressing is the only one to not come in a picture sleeve and is likely a promo as it has the single as the only track featured and it’s on both side of the record. The Spanish pressing is the only single sided pressing and it comes in a picture sleeve with blue writing and the same picture of Springsteen that is featured below and is found on all the pink lettering 12″ pressings. The Dutch pressing comes in the same picture sleeve as the Spanish pressing, but has a live version of “Tougher Than The Rest” on the b-side.

There are a few differences between the two UK 7″ pressings. The most obvious is different cover art on the pictures sleeves. One UK pressing, catalog number – BRUCE B3, blue lettering and the same picture of Springsteen found on the Dutch and Spanish 7″s. This UK 7″ also comes with a free tour patch for the 1988 Tunnel Of Love Tour included. There is a hype sticker on the cover advertising it comes with a free tour patch. The tour patch is about the size of a baseball card.

The other UK 7″ pressing has catalog number – BRUCE 3, and has pink lettering instead of blue. It has the same picture of Springsteen as the UK 7″ pressing with blue lettering. The track listing for both UK 7″ pressings is the same, with a live version of “Tougher Than The Rest” on the b-side.
