Star Wars – Main Title b/w The Throne Room And End Title 10″ (Record Store Day 2017)

Posted: May 4, 2017 in Vinyl

I’m cheating by posting this Record Store Day (RSD) release ahead of my RSD roundup, but since it’s Star Wars Day it couldn’t be more timely. To celebrate the first film’s (I refuse to call it Episode IV: A New Hope) 40th Anniversary a 10” record featuring two of the most iconic songs off the famed score/soundtrack by John Williams was released for RSD 2017. “Main Title” is on the a-side with “The Throne Room And End Title” on the b-side. The record features art taken from the original movie poster for the film instead of the Star Wars logo artwork used for the whole soundtrack.

This artwork is the main reason why I bought it, and I would’ve preferred this record be a 12” instead of a 10” in order to have larger art. The 10” was released by Walt Disney Records (in conjunction with Lucas Film) since they bought the rights to all things Star Wars a few years ago. A total of 4,000 copies were pressed, with all copies pressed on black vinyl. Retail price was around $10, and copies are already selling for more than triple that on the secondary market (eBay, Discogs, etc.).
