Gogol Bordello – Seekers And Finders

Posted: February 27, 2018 in Vinyl

Gogol Bordello released a new album, Seekers And Finders, in 2017, their seventh overall. I had high hopes for it because Gogol Bordello is one of my favorite bands and their previous album, Pura Viva Conspiracy, was great. But unfortunately Seekers And Finders pales in comparison to Pura Viva Conspiracy. A lot of the songs sound the same, and there is an evident lack of energy that is typically find on Gogol Bordello albums. It’s a boring album by any standard, and if not for the accordion and violin, you would never know it was a Gogol Bordello album.

There are four variants for Seekers And Finders, with all of them coming in a gatefold jacket with a full color printed dust sleeve. Despite what the appearance of the cover art suggests, the color of the cover is silver, not white. Some online images have the cover art with a white background, but all copies of the vinyl version of the album come with a silver jacket. One clever touch is the center labels, with the a-side being is labeled the “Seekers” side and the b-side labeled the “Finders” side. Pressing info was never officially released for any of the variants, but here are the colors; black, splatter , blue/white marble and translucent blue.

The splatter variant is exclusive to the band’s web store, and it’s clear with blue splatter. The blue/white marble is not actually an “indie record store exclusive,” like the name typically suggests. It’s a literal meaning, as in it’s available from any independent retailer, as evidenced by Interpunk selling copies of it. And it’s a light blue base with white marbling. I’m not sure what shade of blue the translucent blue variant is because I’ve never seen photos of it.

All of the color variants come with a hype sticker indicating the color. Only the black variant does not come with a hype sticker, which indicates that particular copy is on black vinyl. There are some sites that suggest there are separate U.S. and Euro variants/pressings, but they’re identical in every way. It’s just that some copies of the splatter variant were set aside for European distribution.

Retail price on Seekers And Finders is absurdly high; around $25 for a single LP. And if you wanted one of the colored variants you would have to spend a few bucks more compared to the black variant. If you’re smart just wait till prices inevitably drop, because they will as this record still hasn’t sold out when it was released over six months ago (August 25, 2017), and was put up for pre-order the first week of June. I bought this from Target of all places, which is selling this for below MSRP at $19.39 (they have since raised the price a bit), which combined with a 20% off code and free shipping, I bought this for within my acceptable range for a single LP; under $16.

While I normally don’t sell stuff on this blog, or in general, I need to get rid of some things. This is the start of a thinning out process of doubles I’ve accumulated over the years along with getting rid of things I no longer listen to. Prices are set on all this for the most part. Except for the Alkaline Trio box and the Look Mexico and Lifetime collections I’m trying to sell as a lot, mainly because I have no idea what someone will pay for the stuff, but I’m not looking for crazy money. Yes, I am a bit late hopping on the Christmas present buying craze. So here are the ground rules:

Only the things on this list are for sale. Do not ask about anything else featured on this blog or anything that is not on the below list. Deals will be made for anyone who buys more than 1 thing. I’ll only ship to the USA. Paypal as payment only. So no bitcoin, Stripe or any of that other nonsense. If a color is not mentioned then it’s on black vinyl. Most of this stuff is either factory sealed or in NM condition. If it’s bad shape I’ll make note of it. If you’re concerned about condition as for pics and I will provide them.

If you’re interested in anything please leave a comment with what you’re interested in and your email address, and we can work out a deal. I will not make the comments public, so people will not get your email address or any other info, but I will be able to see it in order to reply to you via email. The subject line of such email responses will be “Stitches and Grooves record sale.” any questions or concerns about anything up for sale feel free to ask. I’m pretty firm on prices but if you don’t like a pice comment with an offer and we can try to work out a deal.

Everything will be mailed in either an LP or 7″ mailer. I should have plenty to go around, but if I run out I will let you know before making payment. Opened records will be shipped outside the jacket to avoid seam splits. Factory sealed records will not be opened under any circumstances. I know how to package records for shipping, plenty of bubble wrap and/or cardboard inserts will be used to try to minimize damage as best as possible.

Gogol Bordelo’s latest album, Pura Vida Conspiracy makes a case for their best album to date. For me it’s tough to decide between this new album and their first album, Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike, but to be fair their latest effort features a few more members added to the band since their early days who greatly compliment the band’s dynamic. After attending the band’s in-store acoustic performance at my local record store the night before the album’s release, the crowd learned an interesting fact about two of the songs on he album. The song titled “My Gypsy Auto Pilot” was shortened during the final stages of recording process of the album. The song’s original working title was “My Gypsy Conzo Auto Beatnik Turbo Pilot,” which is reflect on the track listing printed on the back of the jacket as the long version of the title is printed with several words crossed out to show the final title. Also, “Dig Deep Enough,” the second track on the album, was originally slated to be the opening track but at some point during the recording/mixing process it was pushed deeper on the album. Personally I would have preferred that original track listing rather than having “We Rise Again” open the album, “Dig Deep Enough” would open Pura Vida Conspiracy brilliantly.

There are at least two variants for Pura Vida Conspiracy; a regular variant with the regular artwork an indie record store exclusive variant that has an exclusive cover with alternate artwork. The regular cover variant features the traditional album artwork and is pressed on white vinyl. Included inside the jacket is a bonus 7”, also pressed on white vinyl, that features two exclusive b-sides from the album, “Crack The Case” and “Jealous Sister.” The regular cover variant comes with a download code and a four page fold out insert that has the lyrics printed on two pages, liner notes on another and a live shot of the band on the final page. The download code does include both of the bonus tracks to album that are found on the bonus 7″ that accompanies the regular cover variant, but there is a catch. “Crack The Case” is a stand alone song while “Jealous Sister” is a hidden track that comes after the final track on the standard version of the album, “We Shall Sail.” You’ll notice that “We Shall Sail” appears to be a long song clocking in at over 10 minutes, but in reality it’s only a 3:42 song. After about four minutes of silence “Jealous Sister” kicks in, starting at the 7:38 mark.

The indie record store exclusive variant was announced about a week before the record was released. It has been a hot seller and my local store sold out of the five copies it got in through pre-orders for a in-store performance the band was doing in a matter of hours. This variant comes pressed on black vinyl with blank white center labels. It’s limited to 800 copies and is hand numbered on the cover. The artwork is meant to mimic a brown paper bag and is printed on chipboard. This variant also does not come with three main things found with the regular variant; a download code, the bonus 7” or an insert.

At first the band’s official online store implied the white vinyl would be an LP pre-order exclusive, but that turned out not to be the case when as far as I can tell all copies of the regular cover variant were pressed on white vinyl. Their store also boasted that the bonus 7” was exclusive to their pre-order, which also turned out to not be true either as all copies of the regular cover variant come with the bonus 7” slid inside the jacket. Sometime between one and two weeks before the album’s release their online store changed the description for the LP pre-order to reflect that none of the things they advertised as “exclusives” were actually exclusive.

Gogol Bordello – Immigraniada

Posted: May 13, 2012 in Vinyl

This was supposed to be a Record Store Day (RSD) 2012 release but apparently was not pressed in time for RSD, even though Pirates Press had pictures of it up on their blog on April 13. Instead it was released three weeks after RSD, the week of May 7.

Immigraniada was pressed as a 12″ on yellow vinyl featuring four remix versions of songs off Gogol Bordello’s latest album, Trans-Continental Hustle. There were only 1,000 copies pressed. One weird thing about this release is that it’s housed in a DJ type jacket, but the cover is not die-cut side, it’s the full panel side. It also open from the top rather than the side. One cool thing is if you slide the record into the jacket so that the a-side faces the back of the jacket and is right side up, (so you can read it) it completes an image of the Brazilian Flag.

The 12″ features two songs on each side. It has “Immigraniada (Bassnectar Remix)” and “Trans-Continental Hustle (Samba Ab-Surdu Mix)”  on the a-side and “Frequencies Of Love (Pedro Meirellles Mix)” and “Trans-Continental Hustle (Rio Cigano Mix)” on the b-side.

Like all of Gogol Bordello’s other full lengths, Trans-Continental Hustle was pressed as a double LP. Not sure how many were pressed, but when these frist came out the were on the pricey side, even for a double LP. Their other full lengths were $20 or less, while this new album is $25. The price jump is no doubt due to this album being on a major label. The price tag was why I held off on purchasing this album for a long time, and luckily I was able to snag one on ebay from $15 shipped. So I saved $10 thanks to an awesome seller who decided to list this with a starting price of $7 for whatever reason.

This apparently went OOP for a while without anyone noticing. There is a second pressing coming out at the end of August 2013, it’s even being re-issued on CD. So it might be safe to assume the first pressing was limited in some manner, but how many copies is still unknown. All of Gogol Bordello’s other albums have remained in print since their release. The only thing to sell out was the limited variants if there was one for a particular album. For me it’s just odd that their most expensive album actually went OOP, with it rarely being marked down anywhere. Which could mean there was as few as 1,000 or 2,000 copies pressed initially.

This was the lead single off Gogol Bordello’s third album, Trans-Continental Hustle. The “We Comin’ Rougher” 7″ was a Record Store Day 2010 release and I’m not sure exactly how many were pressed, either 500 or 1,000 were pressed on green vinyl, or both of those numbers could be wrong. It comes housed in a picture disc sleeve and is sealed with a sticker.

Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony (plus) East Infection is essentially two releases in one. It combines the East Infection EP with the Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony  full length. Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony is on the A, B and C side, while the East Infection EP is on the D side. Not sure how many of these were pressed or if it’s OOP, but these can still be easily found on ebay for their original retail price, which is saying something considering all the flippers on ebay.
